Spearheaded by Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s Enterprise and Skills team, the LearnMore Awards give recognition to individuals and organisations which embody the true spirit of learning and achievement. Paying tribute to people who show outstanding commitment in the workplace, in the community and in the education arena.
Steve Panek, employed by Groundwork West Midlands on the Adult & Community Learning project, was nominated by community leaders and members of the public who were asked to nominate individuals who were shining examples of how learning changes lives.
Entrants were then shortlisted by a panel of judges and all the finalists were invited to a prestigious awards ceremony at the King's Hall, Stoke.
Finalist in the Most Inspirational Educator category, Steve, said: "Through my job with Groundwork I travel around the country teaching people first aid. I am very honoured to have been nominated in this category."
Unfortunately Steve didn't win, but he did make the top three and we here at Groundwork West Midlands are very proud of his achievement.
Councillor Mark Meredith, council cabinet member for economic development, said he was delighted at the huge response to the awards, which are now in their second year. He said: "I'm thrilled the LearnMore Awards were again such a success. Everyone worked so hard to make them the truly glittering occasion they were. It proves yet again that the best way to transform your life is through education. But it's not that easy for everyone and all our winners and finalists had tough hurdles to overcome. They've made us all very proud."
